• Remove shade and tracks from packaging (DO NOT use a blade)

Installation Steps #

Step 1: Removing the roll from the cassette #

1. Loosen screws on the door latches using a 5/64 allen wrench allowing the latches to rotate inwards. DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS. Open the door.

2. Undo the silver safety screws, then press the latch release and pull the roll out.

Step 2: Bracket Installation #

1. Install Wall Mount Brackets:

   • Secure brackets to structural supports using appropriate fasteners.

   • Position brackets 4-6″ from each end of the opening.

   • Mount additional brackets (if included) equally spaced between the outer brackets to prevent cassette sag.

     • Use two brackets for shades up to 18′ wide; use four brackets for shades wider than 18′.

   • Align and level all brackets.

Step 3: Power Wire Preparation #

ELECTRICAL SAFETY WARNING

Installation must follow all local electrical codes when working with 110V AC power. Use a certified electrician when necessary. Ensure power is OFF before making any electrical connections.

1. Prepare the Power Wire

   • Ensure the power wire is secured through the cassette on the side that will be the final termination side.

   • Make sure these wires are secured so that they will not be damaged during installation of the cassette.

All KAOS shades have an internal disconnect and ships disconnected. Before running the shade, open the shade door and complete the connection.

To use the “Quick Connect” Slide the RED “Lock” away from the center – Press down on the BLACK part between the RED – While pressing Down, pull the connectors apart

Step 4a: Cassette Installation using Brackets #

Warning: Cassette installation requires two or more people and/or hoisting equipment. Always use safe lifting and rigging techniques.

1. Lift the cassette straight up and hook it onto the installed brackets.

   • Once engaged, the cassette should “click” into place.

Step 4b: Thru-Bolting the Cassette (Ceiling Mount Only) #

1. Pre-drill holes, 4-6″ from the end caps, if over 18′ add more evenly spaced from the outer 2 mounting locations.

2. Ensure that the screws or anchors used are appropriate in quantity, size, and type for the structural substrate they will be mounted to.

   • Be careful not to over torque or aggressively drill retention hardware when mounting the cassette because deformation to the case could occur, this is especially important when ceiling mounting as cassette deformation will make it difficult or impossible to attach the front removable section.

   • The structure behind the mounting points should be flat and level.

Step 5: Fabric Roll Installation #

1. Pre-check roll for Telescoping, if Keder is not stacked evenly on both sides, CLICK HERE for the instructions to correct this before continuing.

2. Note the motor side and idler side.

3. Position both sides under the cassette and push up into the cassette simultaneously on the left and right, there will be an audible “Click” when the shade is secured

4. Fasten the silver safety screws on the mounting plates to secure the material roll.

Warning: The motorplate is secured to the motorhead with the C-clamp, the idler can slide off easily

Warning: Be sure the motor and its tube adaptor, and idler and its tube adaptor are fully seated into the tube before installing the roll into the cassette.

Step 6: Shades under 6′ Additional Weight Bar Assembly #

1. Lower the bottom edge of the shade until it is approximately 5 inches above the ground.

2. Align the front and rear steel bars with the three mounting holes on the hem bar.

3. Attach the front and rear steel bars to the hem bar.

The Rear external weight bar will be the ones with the holes all the way through.

4. Begin by securing one end of the steel bars with one of the three provided weight bar screws. Leave the screw slightly loose.

5. Secure the opposite end with another weight bar screw, also leaving it slightly loose.

6. Install the third screw in the center. Once all three screws are in place, tighten them securely

Step 7: Motor Setup #

Important: KAOS shades ship with remotes unpaired and no limits set. You must complete motor programming before continuing.

Best practice: Only have 1 shade powered up while programming

Step 8: Measuring and Cutting the Tracks #

Cutting the U-Channels #

1. Measure the distance from the bottom of the cassette to the floor

2. Subtract and cut the bottom of the U-Channels

The Tracks are labeled as Left and Right on the top sides of the tracks, the top is indicated by the black “Keder Feeder” and the removable “Stopper”

Cutting the Tracks #

1. Measure the distance from the bottom of the cassette to the floor.

2. Subtract 3/4″ from that measurement–this is the length the tracks need to be cut.

3. Remove the bottom cap from each track.

4. Cut the track to the length from Step 2, trimming only the bottom end of the track (do not cut the top)

Warning: Make sure to always cut the bottom end of the track

The top cap is 1/8″ thick, the bottom cap is 1/8″ thick, this will guarantee you have the required 1/2″ clearance between the cassette and top of the U-Channel for the door to swing open.

Step 9: Installing the U-Channels #

1. Pre-drill the U-channels:

   • 2 holes for TOP, MIDDLE, and BOTTOM.

   • 1 hole every 12 inches in spacing. Attach the U-Channel beneath the housing, ensuring it is aligned with the back of the housing.

2. Secure the U-channels on both sides using the appropriate screws 1/2″ below the cassette.

Step 10: Prep for Track Installation #

1. Tuck each end of the weight bar into the U-channel.

2. With the weight bar inside the U-channel, roll the material up until it’s about 6″ from the top of the U-channel.

Step 11: Feeding the Keder into the Tracks #

1. Slide the tracks at an angle into the U-channels.

2. While doing this, manually lift the weight bar to insert the keder into the track, ensuring the ONYX Guide is in the track channels.

3. Ensure the ONYX Guides are correctly positioned and properly aligned with the track for smooth operation.

Step 12: Track Positioning #

Warning: Track placement is critical for proper operation of the shade.

1. Move the weight bar to about 6″ from the top of the tracks.

2. Adjust the tracks until the end of the weight bar and the edge of the tracks are aligned.

3. Secure the tracks to the U-Channels at the same height as the weight bar.

4. Use the supplied jig to align with the front of the tracks to mark the location, and drill the holes to screw the tracks to the U-Channels.

Tip: For a clean look use a countersink bit and screws.

5. Secure the track to the U-channel using 1½” flanged screws.

6. Move the shade to the bottom.

7. Adjust the tracks until the end of the weight bar and the edge of the tracks are aligned.

The tracks should be the same distance from the U-Channels on both sides.

8. VERIFY the track is plumb.

9. Secure the tracks to the U-Channels at the same height as the weight bar.

10. Use the supplied jig on the back of the U-channel, align it with the edge of the track, mark the position, and drill a hole 1.5″ deep.

11. Move the shade to the middle.

12. VERIFY the track is plumb.

13. Secure the tracks to the U-Channels at the same height as the weight bar.

14. Using the jig, add more screws evenly spaced in between the top, middle, and bottom screws.

15. Install the stopper as shown in the illustration to prevent the weight bar from coming out of the tracks.

Step 13: Fine Tuning and Track Management #

1. Fine tune the upper and lower limits.

2. Refer to the Motor Programming Guide.

3. Check the shade for level and the tracks for plumb to ensure the fabric is rolling without telescoping or binding.
